Six8 Gig Finder: making it simple to find gigs in your local area

As some of you may have read, this week we launched a brand-new Gig Finder as a part of Six8. This is something we’ve been working on for a few months now – largely in response to conversations we’ve had with our artists and venues who find it difficult to promote their gigs.

So what is ‘Gig Finder’? The site features a free map-based system on which venues and artists can list their gigs to directly reach an engaged audience for free. There are already over 250 gigs listed across more than 70 Sydney venues for the month of June and uptake is increasing rapidly.

The new addition to the Six8 site was developed to make live music more accessible and to help boost the industry which has had its share of challenges. Keith Sue, our Managing Director, said,

“Live music shouldn’t be difficult to find. There are some great artists floating around Sydney, and a bunch of venues who are really committing to regularly host live music – we just want to make that more accessible for everyone.”

The new functionality will allow anyone to search their local area for both free and ticketed live music events, filter by date price and genre, and share events with their friends. It aims to consolidate gig information which can traditionally be difficult to find, and therefore connect audiences with artists and venues more directly. Keith explains,

“As it stands, it can be tricky to find what’s going on in the live music world. Unless you’re in the know or have hours to trawl through web pages and social media, finding a local gig to go to can be hard.”

Our roll-out is beginning in Sydney but will extend to other capital cities in the coming months. Keith explains this choice:

“The live music industry in Sydney is in a really interesting place right now. After years of bad news, I can sense a real feeling of optimism. We’re starting to see venues gain licence extensions, and some new regular live music nights popping up around the city. We just need to get out and support that, and the first step is knowing where the gigs are.”

The Six8 Gig Finder is fully integrated with the current booking site. So, users will be able to directly book Six8 artists from their gig listings. In saying that, all gigs may be listed on the site – whether they are booked through Six8 or not. Sydney-siders we need you all to spread the word and use the service. Get out there and support live music in your city. For everyone else, we will be launching in your city soon!
