Have you ever thought of packing up, heading to New Orleans and spending the evenings meandering down Frenchmen Street? While we might not to be able to jet you the States, we have the next best thing. The Low Down Riders epitomise everything New Orleans jazz, the playfulness, the depth, the convergence of joy and struggle in a world that pervade the world we live in. For that reason, they are this week’s featured artist.
Hailing from Sydney’s inner west this energetic five-piece have exploded from the local bar scene into the hearts and minds of fans across the country at festivals including the Caloundra Music Festival, the National Folk Festival, and the Fall Festival – Byron Bay. The boys have also been working hard to put the finishing touches on their debut album Gumbo Ya-Ya which is set to be launched at Sydney’s Venue 505 on Friday 28th September as a part of the 2018 Sydney Festival. I have personally had the pleasure of experiencing the Low Down Riders at the Arcadia in Redfern last year. They had the crowd in the palm of their hand and brought the venue to life – no one was sitting down by the end of the evening.
So the rest is up to you. At the very least you should check out their album and head along to one of their plentiful gigs around Australia. But your know what would be better? Having them at your very own event on Six8.
